Thomas J. Lane held the land before Robert H. Laird. Farm memory also cites John Laird, an Irish immigrant with a North Carolina grant for Continental service, and Robert as a later purchaser in the Brick Church community. Cotton, corn, mules, cattle; later hay and horses. Acreage shrank from a thousand-plus to a few hundred by the late twentieth century.
